Because cancer affects many aspects of your life, Trinitas Comprehensive
Cancer Center offers a variety of special amenities and resources to help you
and your loved ones through this challenging time and even after your medical
treatment is completed.
At Trinitas Comprehensive Cancer Center, we believe in the importance of
addressing your spiritual and emotional needs and coordinating those services
with your medical treatment. All these services work together to help improve
your outcome and quality of life. The Complementary Therapies and Services
Program helps to provide a truly comprehensive approach by treating the whole
person and not just the disease.
Experienced professionals will help you access therapies and resources/services
such as reiki, aromatherapy, chair massage, acupressure, guided imagery,
animal assisted activities, arts & crafts and hypnosis. These are not alternative
treatments to your medical care; rather, they are therapies and activities used
in combination with traditional treatments to offer a holistic approach to your
care. The added benefit of many complementary therapies and services is that
they can become part of a survivorship routine, so that even well after cancer
treatment is over, the general overall daily benefits of these activities and holistic
measures can provide an improved feeling of well-being and wholeness.
How will this help me?
While undergoing your traditional treatment, these therapies will help to give you an overall
sense of well-being. Health is always finding the balance between your mind, body and spirit.
When you are first diagnosed, you may feel helpless and overwhelmed. Our goal is to help you
select the complementary therapies that are right for you and help you to remain grounded and
balanced. We will design an individual program for you based on your needs or symptoms, such
as, nausea, anxiety, fatigue, stress and more.
Will my doctor agree with these treatments?
The complementary therapies and services professionals are a part of your medical team. You
will be referred by your oncologist to this program. We will work with you and your oncologist to
integrate these therapies into your current cancer treatment.
Always talk to your family physician about any complementary therapies or herbal remedies you
are considering or are already doing or taking to make sure they are appropriate for you.
These therapies are not to be considered diagnostic procedures or substitutes for appropriate
medical treatment. They are always used in conjunction with them.
