Dr. Fred Steinbaum, D.O., is the Associate Medical Director of Trinitas
Comprehensive Cancer Center (TCCC). Prior to joining Trinitas, Dr. Steinbaum
was in private practice as a partner in Hematology and Oncology of New
Jersey in Union, which has become a satellite office of TCCC. He has been
the chair of Department of Hematology and Oncology at Union Hospital, Union,
N.J. since that program's inception. He also chaired the Cancer Committee
and served as president of the Medical Staff at Union Hospital. He has held
positions and affiliations with several cancer programs throughout the
region for more than 30 years. Additionally, Dr. Steinbaum has authored or
co-authored a number of papers on cancer treatments and clinical trial
results for various professional journals and societies.
Dr. Steinbaum, together with Dr. Vincent Salerno, medical oncologist at TCCC,
is part of the new cancer center's expanding presence in Union County,
making oncology services more accessible for people in the region. He sees
patients for consultations and examinations at the Union office and offers
them access to the clinical trials, multidisciplinary patient support
services and advanced technology available at the new cancer center.
A native of New Jersey, Dr. Steinbaum graduated from Upsala College, East
Orange, N.J. and is a graduate of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic
Medicine, Kirksville, Mo. He completed residencies in medicine at Newark
Beth Israel Medical Center and New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry,
both in Newark, N.J. Dr. Steinbaum was a first-year fellow in medical
oncology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and second-year fellow in
medical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, N.Y., N.Y.
Active in a number of professional societies, including the American College
of Surgeons, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Cancer Society
and the American Osteopathic Association, Dr. Steinbaum has been a member of
the New Jersey Task Force for Cancer Early Detection, Prevention and
Treatment since his appointment by the Governor in 2000.
