TRINITAS COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER SCORES BIG IN NATIONAL PATIENT
SATISFACTION SURVEY
Earns Multiple #1 Rankings
With the official launch of Trinitas Comprehensive Cancer Center (TCCC) in
November 2005, Gary Horan, FACHE, President & CEO of Trinitas Regional Medical Center, set
a goal for the Comprehensive Cancer Center to be "the best in clinical care
and patient satisfaction" by offering unsurpassed technology, medical and
clinical expertise, and compassionate patient-centered services to patients
with cancer in Union County and beyond.
In only a little more than a year since its opening, TCCC is pleased to
report remarkable results in patient satisfaction. Through Press Ganey
Associates, the healthcare industry's top patient satisfaction measurement
firm, patients at outpatient cancer centers across the country are asked to
score their facility on 51 different parameters relating to patient
satisfaction. Within its comparison group, TCCC earned the #1 ranking in 14
of the 51 survey questions. In addition, TCCC scores exceeded the peer group
averages for 81% of the 51 patient satisfaction parameters measured.
Trinitas Comprehensive Cancer Center was ranked number one in the following
patient satisfaction categories:
Skill of Nursing Staff
Skill of Radiation Therapy Staff
Skill of Phlebotomy Staff
Management of Pain & Other Symptoms
Caring Manner of Nurses
Discharge Instructions by Nurses
Helpfulness of Registration Staff
Ability to Reach Nurses by Phone
Facility Cleanliness
Comfort of Waiting Areas
Courtesy in Taking Patient Phone Calls
Nurse Answers to Your Questions
Nurse Explanation of What was Done
Finding Way Around Facility with Ease
Credit for having achieved top rankings in these categories goes to each
TCCC employee and to the patient-centered culture that guides each team
member's daily mission. The nursing staff in particular deserves additional
kudos for helping TCCC achieve its top honors since nursing scores were
especially exceptional. Of the five survey questions that assessed
satisfaction with cancer center nurses, TCCC scored number one in all five
categories.
"We are exceedingly proud of our performance on so many parameters that are
vitally important to our patients," said Bernadette Countryman, Senior Vice
President of Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer at Trinitas Regional Medical Center. "It is wonderful to have such overwhelmingly positive feedback
from our patients through an independent research organization to confirm
that our efforts are making an important difference. It's truly a team
effort that involves everyone, including the terrific non-clinical staff
that provides the support necessary for us to achieve our goal of excellent
patient service. We aim to provide unsurpassed patient satisfaction in every
category so that patients receive the best clinical care and a positive
experience."
As patients continue to be more selective in choosing healthcare facilities,
especially with respect to specialty hospitals like cancer treatment
centers, patient satisfaction surveys provide valuable feedback that is
helping to redefine health care services. Providing treatment alone is no
longer enough. Hospitals must offer "something more" to attract new
patients. Trinitas management and staff are keenly aware of this trend and
have made patient-centered care and satisfaction key elements of TCCC's
mission.
Note: The Trinitas Comprehensive Cancer Center conducts continuous
patient satisfaction surveys throughout the year using the services of Press
Ganey Associates. For the purpose of comparison, the surveys are mailed to
the homes of current patients at outpatient cancer facilities across the
country, including several National Cancer Institute (NCI) accredited
hospitals. While many questions are standard for all cancer centers, many
facilities including TCCC use additional questions that are more specific to
their patient satisfaction goals.
